In this article, Ravell gets up close and personal with Rally Media as he discusses upcoming news and highlights that we can expect from him in the near future!
Richard Garcia, also known as Ravell, was born on June 10, 1992. He plunged into the world of DJing at house parties in his hometown of Fontana, California but quickly paved his way through the EDM world and found himself playing premiere nightclubs with substantial audiences. Many associate Ravell’s sound with the phenomenal remix he released in 2016 known as “Louder, Harder, Better”, an original track previously released by Galantis. As the years go on, the young producer’s success is only growing.
Upon discussing what we can expect within the upcoming months from Ravell, he hinted at new collaborations and many new city pit-stops he has never been to before! For all of the EDM fans, this is fantastic news as Ravell will be releasing hot new music for the summer.
Aside from this, he is also stoked to have had the opportunity to play EDC 2017 in Las Vegas on June 18. He passionately mentioned that EDC was going to be huge and that he was more than excited for the energy at the venue. To get up close and personal with Ravell, check out the Q&A portion of this interview below!
WHO INSPIRED YOU AND YOUR UNIQUE SOUND WHILE GROWING UP?
“I usually just let the music inspire me. When I get in a room and make music, I just let it be. Sometimes when I try and pinpoint a certain sound, I get lost in it…so I find it better to just let it be.
One of my biggest influences when I was growing up was my family. In terms of work ethic, my dad definitely inspired me as I started DJing with him at the age of 12. It’s funny because my mom always gives me crap because she funded my first set of turntables and she always says ‘your dad didn’t do it all, I helped fund it!’ ”
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PART ABOUT WORKING AND TOURING ALONGSIDE KASKADE?
“Having his support is huge! I mean, the guy has done it all. I first started touring with him in 2012 and ever since then, he continues to support my music. I am grateful for that!”
DO YOU PLAN ON TOURING BY YOURSELF?
“Of course! I’m doing a bunch of gigs this summer. I’m even thinking about doing a Mexico run soon which is exciting! There is definitely a bunch coming up…so stay tuned.”
WHAT WOULD I FIND ON YOUR PLAYLIST?
“Oh this is like personal! Man, this is so funny because I went on a run and I posted a snapchat and I was playing music and I was playing Carlos Santana. I got hit up so much after with people being like ‘What? You like Carlos Santana?!’ Yeah, I listen to all kinds of stuff and I like to switch it up from time to time.”
DO YOU HAVE ANY PRE-SHOW RITUALS BEFORE YOU PLAY A SET AT A VENUE?
“I try to keep it chill and save all my energy and excitement for when I’m on stage!”
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MEMORY FROM A PAST SHOW?
“I would say my first show with Kaskade. That was a big one for me. I was in Miami at the Klipsch Amphitheater for the Freaks of Nature Tour in 2012. It was probably around 12,000 people. I remember they asked me if I felt comfortable and if I was nervous and all I remember saying is ‘no man, this is what I do!’ I remember looking around and I saw the crowd yelling, dancing and jumping. It was definitely a memorable moment!”
After concluding with the formal interview questions, we began to discuss Toronto. He said he could not wait to get back here and that the Spring Fling 2017 at Rebel Nightclub on Sunday, May 21, 2017 was one of his all-time favourites from the tour! Ravell mentioned to me that Toronto is just so much fun and the people really make it special for him. That’s right all you Toronto festival-goers, keep your eyes on Ravell because he is just itching to get back here and party with us all again soon!
